RMS MIL-DTL-83723 Series III (R07) Connectors

MIL-DTL-83723 connectors are used in applications with demanding environments. They come in threaded and bayonet versions and are commonly seen in military and commercial aviation. There are varieties of connectors within this cylindrical family, with the following options and characteristics available:

  • Two coupling styles: Bayonet and Threaded Plugs and Receptacles.
  • Both coupling styles inter-mate with MIL-DTL-26500 connectors (exception: shell size 8 threaded, does not mate with M26500 threaded).
  • Aluminum and passivated stainless steel versions.
  • A variety of mounting configurations.
  • A variety of material finishes are offered such as electroless nickel, olive drab cadmium and black anodizing. Other finishes are available with a commercial equivalent.
  • A double-ended plastic tool is used, where one end is for insertion and the other end is for removal of contacts.
  • Alternate key/keyway positions prevent cross mating of adjacent connectors having the same insert arrangement.
  • The elastomer grommet is able to seal over a wide range of wire diameters and has a triple wire seal in each cavity.
  • Positive alignment of pin contacts by the lead-in chamfers of the closed entry hard socket inserts. Raised moisture seal barriers around each pin contacts that mate with the lead in chamfers of the hard socket insert.
  • The elastomer grommet is able to seal over a wide range of wire diameters and has a triple wire seal in each cavity.
  • The rear release crimped contact system features a stamped retaining clip captivated by molded-in shoulders of each contact cavity in the insulator. This produces a very stable contact.
  • High-temperature firewall versions.

A full range of contacts are also available with 8D connectors such as signal transmission, high-speed data transmission (quadrax, twinax, coax, ELIO®). 54 QPL layouts are available in accordance with MIL-STD-1560.

The 8D series is compliant with the MIL standard connector design with unique self-locking mechanism (patented by SOURIAU), visual mating indication, scoop proof, quick screw coupling and 360° shielding. The patented self-locking system and the metallic contact retention clip technology make the product perfect for high vibration applications or rough handling in the field.

8D connectors offer concrete RoHS alternative to cadmium. SOURIAU has more than 10 years of experience in producing Zn Ni with continuous improvements to comply with military and aerospace harsh environment conditions. Zn Ni connectors are the first one to be qualified by the US Defense standards organization (DLA Land and Maritime). It provides the most cost-effective solution for a cadmium alternative finish.

The ground blocks bodies are made from an aluminum alloy and terminal modules from polyphenylene sulfide. They meet the electrical, mechanical and environmental performance criteria of MIL-J-81714 specification. They provide a large number of ground terminations within close proximity to signal wires and are available in five buss configurations, all designed to accommodate size 16 and 20 AWGH cables terminated with AS39029 contacts.
