SOURIAU ELIO MIL-DTL-38999 – Fiber-Optic High-Speed Connectors

The ELIO connector range is the favorite Airbus fiber optics termini for A350, A380, A330, A400M programs. The mass-production scale of ELIO makes it the sustainable optical solution for aerospace, space, defense, marine and industrial market.

The flight-proven ELIO fiber optics termini are designed around a robust 2.5mm ceramic ferrule. The assembly is as easy an ST connector. The insertion and retention inside the connector is ensured by a bayonet locking mechanism without any special tool. The termini integrates a seal inside the rear boot, thus the connection is sealed from the rear side without a backshell or a grommet. The 8D ELIO range covers layout from 1 to 24 ways in all type of material shell.

Each cavity can be upgraded with the brand-new ELIOBEAM expanded beam ELIO version. In the female insert, the termini are flushed to the insert surface, thus making easy the fiber optical end-face inspection and cleaning, compared to the traditional dust collecting socket design.

The same termini part number can adapt tight or loose structure cable.

  • Fiber optic termini keyed for better vibration withstanding and optical performances repeatability
  • Multimode contact – Insertion Loss (IL):
    • < 0.3dB over 95% of the samples as per EN2591-601

Glenair Mighty Mouse (Series 80) Connectors

Glenair Mighty Mouse (Series 80) Connectors

Glenair Mighty Mouse (Series 80) Connectors

Glenair’s Mighty Mouse Series 80 is the leading miniature connector series used in military, civil and ground applications. It mimics the MIL-DTL-38999, however, it is smaller in size and lighter. The Series 80 Mighty Mouse Connector is ideal for the extensive range of power and signal applications that rely on safe environmental and mechanical performance and electromagnetic compatibility as well as high-speed applications such as gigabit Ethernet. This series offers six different coupling variations-size #23 crimp contacts are standard, set on .076″ centers. Mighty Mouse connectors have been used in many critical military and civil applications specializing in harsh and rugged environments. Considering this series is half the size and weight of the standard D38999 connectors, many engineers switched their designs toward this series.

The goal of creating this series was to drastically decrease the size and weight of this flight-critical connector while maintaining its core performance features. The connector reduction work took place in three critical areas beginning with the reduction of the shell size and the addition of banding and shrink boot accessory functions. By doing so, Glenair successfully managed to cut not only the size and weight of the D38999, but also reduce the cost significantly.

Transient Voltage Suppression (TVS) technologies are designed to shunt voltage transients directly to ground before such surges can damage sensitive electronic equipment.

Individual TVS diodes, as well as diode modules, are incorporated directly into the TVS filter connector package to provide optimal protection for either individual contacts or groups of contacts without significant increases in connector size or weight. RTCA DO-160 and other electrical performance standards define acceptable benchmarks for withstanding electromagnetic pulse, lightning strike, or other induced voltage surges in high-reliability systems. For high-speed signals, care must be taken in selecting diodes to minimize capacitance loading effects which can lead to signal loss. Glenair SuperSeal™ TVS-equipped RJ45 connectors have been engineered to transmit high-speed signals while providing indirect lightning strike protection in accordance with the RTCA DO-160 standard.

SuperSeal™ connectors prevent catastrophic EMP failure in military and commercial aircraft.

  • Electromagnetic pulse (EMP) protection
  • Lightning protection
  • Saves weight and space
  • Superior performance
  • D38999 Series III type
  • SuperSeal™ signature sealing and grounding
  • Available in many various shell types: 28840, 5015, 26482, 38999, and Series 801, 804, and 805 Mighty Mouse.

Glenair Opto Electronic Products (Transmitters, Receivers, Media Converters)

Glenair Opto Electronic Products (Transmitters, Receivers, Media Converters)

Glenair Opto Electronic Products (Transmitters, Receivers, Media Converters)

Beginning in 2012 Air Electro teamed up with Glenair to be their first distributor to sell Glenair’s cutting edge optoelectronic product.

Optoelectronics (also referred to as photonics) are various forms of optical transceivers/receiver assemblies, copper-to-fiber media converters, “active” connectors and cables and other devices used to convert digital electrical signals in electronic equipment into optical signals for high-bandwidth, long-distance transmission. In aerospace and other demanding environments, optoelectronics are ruggedized for resistance to temperature extremes, vibration and shock.

Commercial and military avionic platforms, as well as in-flight communications and entertainment systems, flight displays, and data servers for aerospace applications increasingly rely on high-performance, harsh-environment optoelectronic modules that convert electrical-to-optical and optical-to-electrical data streams at rates from 1 Gbps up to 10 Gbps and beyond.

The harsh environmental requirements of commercial and military aerospace (temperature extremes, vibration and shock, EMI shielding, hermetic packaging and so on) are not adequately addressed by commercial-off-the-shelf fiber-optic interconnects and transceiver/receiver assemblies. Many other applications also require optoelectronic modules that can operate in harsh environments including spacecraft, military ground vehicles, navy ships, above-ground and sub-sea oil and gas production plants as well as collider physics and nuclear plants.

These products are often used in fiber optic interconnect cable assembly applications such as: environmental over-molded fiber optic cable assembly, multi-way inside-the-Box D38999-to-ST assembly, fiber optic multibranch assembly with flexible conduit wire protection and integrated cable storage bay, GFOCA I/O to board assembly with reinforcing over braiding, high-speed video fiber optic switch and cable junction box assembly, and turnkey GFOCA fiber optic cable assembly.
